Deck Staining & Refinishing Near You in Northeast Ohio

Northeast Ohio is hard on decks. Freeze and thaw cycles pry boards loose, humid summers feed mildew, and a season of UV bleaches even a good finish to gray. We bring weathered decks back. Chagrin Falls Painting Company is family owned and has been painting and staining across Greater Cleveland for 40 years, and decks are one of the things we do best.

Deck Staining and Refinishing Services We Offer

Whatever your deck needs, it is one project with one crew. If you have been searching for deck staining near you, it usually comes down to one of these:

Deck cleaning and staining

We wash away dirt, mildew, and failing finish, let the wood dry, then stain.

Deck power washing and staining

Controlled pressure that gets the wood clean without tearing up the grain.

Deck repair and staining

Our in-house carpenters replace damaged boards and re-secure railings before any stain goes down.

Deck sanding and refinishing

Peeling or built-up old finish gets sanded or stripped back to sound wood.

Full deck restoration

The complete rescue for gray, neglected decks: repairs, deep cleaning, and a fresh finish.

Prep Makes the Difference

No two decks come to us in the same condition, so the prep is never one size fits all. Depending on what your deck needs, that can mean power washing away dirt and mildew, stripping a failing finish, sanding rough or peeling boards, or replacing damaged wood before any stain goes down. What we never do is rush stain onto wood that is not clean, dry, and sound, because that is exactly how finishes fail early.

Deck Repair Before We Stain

Stain will not fix a broken deck. Because our carpentry crew is in-house, we handle the repairs most painting companies turn away: replacing rotted or splintered boards, tightening or rebuilding wobbly railings, and resetting popped nails and screws before we finish the surface. If you have been putting off staining because a few boards are shot, that is exactly the project we are built for.

Choosing the Right Deck Stain

We work with the top trusted brands of deck stains and sealers and match the product to your wood and the look you want. The real decision is opacity. Transparent and semi-transparent stains show off the grain but need recoating more often. Solid stains hide older wood and previous coatings and last the longest between recoats. Oil-based products penetrate deeper, while water-based products hold their color longer and resist mildew.

What Affects Deck Staining Cost in Northeast Ohio

Every deck is different, so we quote each project individually instead of from a one-size price sheet. The biggest factors are square footage and the amount of railing, spindles, benches, and stairs, which take more time than the floor itself. Condition matters just as much: a deck that only needs a wash costs less than one that needs stripping, sanding, or board replacement, and switching from an old solid color back to a natural look takes extra prep. The stain you choose plays a part too. Estimates are always free, and we keep the whole process simple from the first call.

The Best Time to Stain a Deck in Northeast Ohio

Our staining season runs roughly May through October. Stain needs mild temperatures, dry wood, and a stretch of dry days to cure properly, which is why we watch the forecast on every job. Spring and early summer slots fill fastest, so if your deck is on this year’s list, the best time to get an estimate is before the season starts.

Deck Staining and Refinishing FAQ

A: It depends on square footage, railing and spindle count, the condition of the current finish, and whether repairs are needed. A deck that only needs washing and one coat costs meaningfully less than one that needs stripping, sanding, and board replacement. Our estimates are free and in writing, so you get a real number for your deck instead of a guess.

A: In Northeast Ohio, plan on every 2 to 3 years for transparent and semi-transparent stains, and longer for solid stains. Freeze and thaw winters and humid summers wear finishes here faster than in milder climates. Horizontal boards in full sun always wear first.

A: Sometimes you can, sometimes you should not. A sound, lightly faded finish can often take a maintenance coat of a compatible product. A peeling, blotchy, or failing finish needs to be stripped or sanded first, or the new coat fails with it. We confirm which situation your deck is in before any new stain goes down.

A: Most projects take one to three days on site, depending on size, repairs, and drying weather. After the final coat, plan on staying off the deck for at least 24 to 48 hours and waiting a bit longer before furniture goes back, depending on the product and weather.

A: Look for a local company, not a lead site, with real reviews, real photos of local work, proof of licensing and insurance, and a written estimate that explains the work, not just the price. Ask who actually shows up: our crews are our own people, led by names you will find on our About page.
